Two Men Arrested for Possession of Indian Hemp in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested two men for allegedly being found in possession of Indian hemp (chamba) without valid documentation.

According to Kawale Police Station spokesperson, Precious Mabvuto Phiri, the suspects Samson Benedicto, 63, and Mark Vesiko Phiri, 50, were apprehended on Wednesday this week by a mobile patrol team at Petroda Filling Station in Area 24.

Phiri said the two were passengers on a vehicle heading to Balaka, and upon inspection of their belongings, officers discovered bags containing the illegal substance.

Samson Benedicto hails from Chimphaninji Village, Traditional Authority Wimbe, while Mark Vesiko Phiri is from Chimndulu Village, Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe, both in Kasungu District.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to illegal possession of cannabis.
