A 34-year-old man, Yousuf Hussein, is in police custody in Mulanje on suspicion of transporting liquid fuel without a permit.

According to Leah Chagomerana, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mulanje Police, Hussein was arrested on Sunday, 22 June 2025, at the Mulanje Golf Club police roadblock.

At the time of his arrest, Hussein was driving a Scania van which, upon inspection, was found to be carrying 12 drums of diesel fuel—each containing 210 litres.

When questioned, Hussein failed to provide proper documentation or a valid explanation for the fuel. He later confessed that he had been hired to transport the fuel for export to Mozambique.

Yousuf Hussein hails from Mankhamba Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kaduya in Phalombe District.
