The Ministry of Homeland Security has banned members of the public from wearing uniforms that look like those used by Malawi’s Security Services.

In a statement released on 25th June 2025, Minister of Homeland Security Ezekiel Peter Ching’oma said the ban follows a rise in people, including private security workers, politicians and party supporters wearing uniforms meant for official security bodies.

The Minister warned that wearing or using such uniforms without permission is a crime and may lead to arrest. He said some people use the uniforms to commit crimes and confuse the public which creates security risks across the country.

He added that from now those who will be found wearing that uniform without a permission will face legal action and their item will be seized.
