The Zambian government has announced that while no formal evacuations have yet begun, it has activated evacuation protocols for its 177 nationals currently in Israel and four others in Iran, in light of ongoing regional tensions.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, said that although a ceasefire remains in place between Israel and Iran, the government is taking precautionary steps to ensure the safety of its citizens.
Haimbe confirmed that all affected Zambians in Israel including students, religious pilgrims, diplomats, tourists, and professionals—have been accounted for using an emergency tracking and communication system set up by the Zambian Mission in Tel Aviv.
He added that a comprehensive evacuation plan has already been developed, identifying the Taba border crossing into Egypt as the most viable exit route for Zambians in Israel, should the situation deteriorate.
Priority for evacuation, Haimbe said, will be given to vulnerable groups, including students, minors, and persons with medical conditions. The government is also providing consular assistance and continuous updates to all affected individuals.
This proactive step follows regional concerns over potential escalation in hostilities after previous cross-border attacks between Iran and Israel.
