Police in Ndirande, Blantyre, have arrested a 28-year-old man, Lyton Juma, on allegations of defrauding two victims by promising to multiply their money through witchcraft.

According to Ndirande Police Public Relations Officer, Chibisa Mulimbika, the suspect convinced the victims that he possessed magical powers to increase their cash.

The victims reportedly handed over K380,000, with Juma assuring them that the money would miraculously grow to K30 million.

As part of the alleged ritual, Juma gave the victims a sealed box, instructing them to open it at midnight, claiming it would be full of cash. However, when the time came, the box was empty.

When the victims confronted him, Juma reportedly blamed them, saying they had disrespected the spirits by doubting the process. He then demanded an additional K200,000, threatening that if they failed to pay, the spirits would punish them with madness.

After realizing they had been scammed and had already paid over K1 million in total, the victims reported the matter to the police, leading to Juma’s arrest.

Juma, who hails from Saiti Village, Traditional Authority M’baluku in Mangochi District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.
