The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) in Zambia has announced a reduction in fuel prices effective July 2025, offering some relief to consumers amid ongoing economic pressures.
According to a statement released by ERB Board Chairperson James Banda, the new prices are as follows:
Petrol: Reduced from K31.36 to K28.00 per litre
Diesel: Reduced from K25.12 to K23.13 per litre
Kerosene: Reduced from K24.79 to K21.98 per litre
Jet A-1: Reduced from K27.08 to K23.94 per litre
Banda attributed the downward adjustment largely to the appreciation of the Kwacha against the US Dollar during June 2025. The Kwacha gained strength by 11.2 percent, moving from K27.06 per US dollar to K24.03.
Another key factor behind the price reduction is the impact of the TAZAMA Open Access policy, introduced in April 2025, which has reportedly helped reduce premiums, especially for diesel.
“The positive performance of the Kwacha and the benefits realized from the TAZAMA Open Access have contributed to this downward fuel price adjustment,” Banda said.
The ERB said it will continue to monitor both international oil market trends and local economic indicators for future price adjustments.
This marks the second fuel price cut for Zambia in 2025, signaling a hopeful trend for motorists and businesses heavily reliant on petroleum products.
