Malawian socialite and entrepreneur Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Cha Cha, has filed an application for an injunction at the High Court, seeking to restrain fellow social media personality Hannah Jabesi, also known as Tamia Ja, from publishing defamatory content about her.
Through her lawyer, Chancy Gondwe, Cha Cha is demanding that Tamia Ja immediately take down all existing defamatory materials from her social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube, and refrain from making any further defamatory statements.
In the court filing, Gondwe argues that the ongoing publications have caused significant damage to his client’s image and reputation both locally and internationally.
“The claimant’s (Cha Cha’s) reputation as a philanthropist and businesswoman is being irretrievably tarnished daily. The defamatory content has gained global traction, harming the claimant’s standing in Malawi and abroad,” reads part of the certificate of extreme urgency accompanying the application.
The matter is now awaiting determination by the court.
