Two Chinese Nationals Among Suspects Arrested in Zambia’s Ongoing Drvg Trafficking Crackdown

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Zambia has intensified its nationwide fight against drug trafficking and abuse, with recent operations leading to multiple arrests across Lusaka and Southern Provinces, including the apprehension of two Chinese nationals.
In Lusaka Province, DEC officers conducted a targeted operation that led to the arrest of Kexia Zheng, a 32-year-old male, and Chenjiang Chen, a 36-year-old female both residents of Lilayi Extension. The duo faces charges of trafficking in sachets containing 1.5 grammes of methamphetamines and 0.96 grammes of heroin. Officers also seized K8,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the DEC arrested and jointly charged Stanely Simwanza (30) and Danny Siamoole (29), both from Chibolya community, for trafficking in 1.1 grammes of cocaine. A Toyota Ractis vehicle, allegedly used to conceal the drugs, was also confiscated.
Further arrests in Lusaka Province include:
- David Tembo (31) of Kafue, found with 3.1 kilogrammes of cannabis.
- Alfred Kapandela (62) of Mwachisakulo area in Kafue, charged with possession of 900 grammes of cannabis.
- Racheal Shanzi (26) of Chawama Township, caught trafficking 16 sachets of cannabis weighing 26.15 grammes.
Meanwhile, in Mazabuka District, Southern Province, the DEC arrested Fulano Malambo (40), Thina Malambo (54), and Abby Hanjalika (61) for trafficking 912.4 grammes of loose cannabis.
All suspects are currently in lawful custody pending court appearances.
DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba, in a statement, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to disrupting the supply and demand chain of illicit drugs in Zambia. Tamba urged the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking and abuse.
“The fight against illicit drugs requires collective community action to protect our nation’s health and wealth,” the DEC statement reads.
