The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Alinafe Banda Maliwasa and Grace Kuseni in Lilongwe for their alleged involvement in procurement-related corruption, including abuse of office, neglect of duty, forgery, and obtaining contracts through false pretences.

In a press release issued by ACB Senior Public Relations Officer Jacqueline Ngongonda, the arrests follow investigations into irregularities that occurred around 2020 while Maliwasa was working at the Malawi Parliament.

The ACB uncovered that Grace Kuseni, owner of Divine Excellence, allegedly forged and submitted fake quotations from companies such as Allu-Tech Aluminium System and Carports Kings International to fraudulently win government contracts.

Maliwasa is accused of facilitating and enabling the corrupt dealings by failing to follow due procedures and abusing her position in the procurement process.

Both suspects are expected to appear in court soon as the Bureau continues with its crackdown on corruption and public sector malpractice.
