The Malawi Prison Service has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that its officers are planning a nationwide strike.

This follows claims by some disgruntled officers who expressed frustration over the government’s failure to address their long-standing welfare concerns. Among the issues raised is the lack of promotions, with some officers reportedly serving over six years without any advancement.

Despite the allegations, Malawi Prison Service spokesperson Steven Meke has assured the public that operations in all prisons across the country are running smoothly and remain unaffected.

“The situation in all our facilities is normal. There are no disruptions, and services are being delivered as expected,” said Meke.

The Service has not ruled out engagement with concerned officers to address their grievances through appropriate channels.
