The case involving businessman and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for the central region, Alfred Gangata, who is accused of possessing a fake Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), resumed today at the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe.
This morning, the defence team began cross-examining the first state witness, Andrew Elia Phambala, a teacher.
In a previous appearance, Phambala testified that he sat for the MSCE exams on Gangata’s behalf in 2018 after being promised a K4 million reward by the accused.
During today’s session, one of Gangata’s lawyers, Kalekeni Kaphale, took the lead in questioning the witness.
Gangata was arrested in March this year following allegations that he obtained and used a forged MSCE certificate.
