The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre has added six new charges, including buggery and gross indecency, against Wim Akster, a Dutch national accused of sexually abusing beneficiaries of a secondary school bursary scheme run by Timotheos Foundation.
The hearing, which resumed on Tuesday, saw the first victim conclude his testimony, offering a detailed account of incidents that allegedly occurred while Akster drove him around various locations in Blantyre. The witness recounted moments of intimate kissing and sexual acts involving the accused’s genitals, claiming he continued to engage in the behavior to maintain access to educational support under the bursary program.
According to State Prosecutor Victor Jere, the prosecution will present two more witnesses in the coming sessions.
Akster, who served as Finance Director at the foundation, has denied all charges laid against him. The case, which has dragged for over four years due to legal technicalities, is now gaining momentum as new developments emerge.
In an interview with MBC Digital, defense lawyer Fostino Maere reaffirmed his commitment to defending his client, emphasizing that justice must prevail.
“We’re fully prepared to defend Mr. Akster and ensure a fair trial,” said Maere.
Chief Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha is expected to continue hearing the case on August 18, 2025.
