Man Gets 30 Months Jail Term For Having S3x With Cow in Chitipa

A 24-year-old man, James Mtambo, has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment with hard labour for engaging in bestiality, a serious offense under Malawi’s laws.
Mtambo was convicted by the Chitipa First Grade Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a cow in March 2025.
Although he pleaded not guilty, the prosecution paraded four witnesses who testified against him, leading to his conviction.
In delivering the sentence, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offense, describing it as morally and culturally offensive. The magistrate noted that the punishment was meant to deter similar behavior in society.
Bestiality remains a criminal offense in Malawi and is punishable by imprisonment under the Penal Code.
