Police in Lilongwe have launched investigations into a recent spate of killings reported in some parts of city, particularly in Area 49 and Area 25, which fall under the jurisdiction of Kanengo Police Station.
The development comes amid growing concerns from residents over what they describe as deteriorating security in the capital city.
National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed to MIJ Online that the Malawi Police Service has begun a probe into the incidents, saying that authorities are taking the matter seriously.
“We are aware of the concerns and have already launched investigations into the killings. Our aim is to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas,” said Kalaya.
He further disclosed that intensified patrols and community collaboration are some of the immediate steps being taken to address the situation.
“We are working closely with local leaders and community policing groups to identify suspects and prevent further crimes,” he added.
Kalaya emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
