The Alliance for Democracy (Aford) has confirmed it is in advanced talks with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and UTM for a possible alliance ahead of the September 16 General Election.

Aford deputy secretary general for operations, Chris Thaulo, made the announcement during a rally held at Nsanje Prison Ground on Sunday.

He said discussions on leadership and the running mate for the alliance are nearing completion.

“Our focus is on the four F’s: food security, access to foreign exchange, consistent fertiliser supply, and ending fuel shortages,” Thaulo said.

Deputy campaign director Trywell Kasawala took a swipe at the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), accusing it of giving out K50,000 to individuals in exchange for sympathy votes.

He urged voters to elect leaders committed to genuine development rather than handouts.
