Ntcheu Man Fined K1 Million for Illegal Charcoal Possession

Ntcheu First Grade magistrate’s Court has today convicted and fined 21 year old Chrispin Anderson, one million kwacha (1,000,000) for illegal possession and transportation of charcoal.
State prosecutor, Gift Kalamula told the court that on 15th January 2025 police and forest officers found Anderson who was driving a 10 tonne lorry carrying 200 bags of charcoal at Balaka market in Ntcheu and he was coming from Mangochi going to Lilongwe.
He said the driver and some people who were in the vehicle escaped while Anderson who had been on the run until he handed himself to police this month pleaded guilty in court and was convicted.
First Grade Magistrate Chidima Phiri ordered the convict to pay a fine of one million kwacha or in default serve a 36 month custodial sentence and he has managed to pay the fine.
