People from all walks of life on Sunday flocked to South Lunzu Community Day Secondary School Ground in Area 12 to witness the colorful launch of the campaign trail of Independent Shadow Member of Parliament for South Lunzu Constituency, Alex Achalume Chimwala.
The launch was graced by representative of various political parties namely; United Transformation Movement (UTM), Peoples Development Party (PDP) and the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

During the launch, Chimwala also unveiled a Manifesto where he has highlighted a number of development projects for the constituency which he has promised to fulfil them once elected as Member of Parliament on September 16, 2025.
One of the notable developments highlighted in the manifesto is the construction of Secondary School at Nkolokoti Primary, rehabilitation of khama to Matchombe Village road, construction of Technical College at Namilango and push for Youth Centre.

Speaking with the press after the launch Chimwala promised not to dump the people of Machinjiri once elected on September 16.
“I promised you the people of Machinjiri that I will not be like the past MPs of the area who relocate to Lilongwe once elected.
“I will not do such a thing because doing so will be like running away from my own family. I was born in Machinjiri and I will die and be buried in Majanga,” said Chimwala.

Turning to the development projects, Chimwala promised to continue drilling boreholes across the constituency.
He also promised to construct the main market in the Township.
Chimwala was also accompanied by Francis Muluzi, son to former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi who in his address urged the people of Machinjiri to vote for Chimwala.

“I know Chimwala and is capable of developing the constituency so I urge you all to vote for him on September 16. He will not disappoint you,” said Muluzi in his father’s voice.
Before the launch, Chimwala inaugurated the Alizeyo Bridge which he has constructed in the area.
Meanwhile, Peoples Development Party (PDP) has endorsed Chimwala in South Lunzu Constituency.
