Police in Lilongwe have arrested three men suspected of being behind a series of violent crimes in Area 25, including the murder of five people and multiple armed robberies.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed that the suspects will appear in court on Tuesday to answer charges related to 13 separate cases five of them involving murder and the rest theft and robbery.

“These are men we arrested in Lilongwe on suspicion that they have been disturbing public peace through criminal activities and stealing from people,” said Kalaya.

According to police, the suspects allegedly rode bicycles at night, attacked victims with metal bars, and robbed them of valuables including mobile phones and cash.

Police on Monday took the suspects to various crime scenes where they are believed to have operated. The suspects are said to have terrorized residents in recent weeks, with Area 25 recording an alarming spike in violent crimes.
