Police in Lilongwe have re-arrested a 29-year-old man, Kondwani Grey, just five days after his release from Maula Prison, for allegedly stealing electrical equipment from the offices of the Local Government Service Commission in Area 4.

According to Hastings Chigalu, spokesperson for Lilongwe Police, the incident occurred on July 18, 2025, during lunch hours when the suspect reportedly broke into the offices and stole various electrical items.

Grey, who hails from Chazuka Village, Traditional Authority Tengani in Nsanje District, was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene.

Police say Grey had just completed serving a sentence at Maula Prison on July 14, 2025, for a similar offense. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
