The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has officially announced an electoral alliance with the Northern Alliance ahead of the September 16 general elections. In a joint statement signed by representatives of both parties, the alliance is described as a partnership born out of a shared commitment to rescue Malawi from ongoing socio-economic challenges.
While details about the full composition of the Northern Alliance remain unclear, several parties led by politicians from the Northern Region have been actively mobilizing and holding joint rallies. These include the Freedom Party, the National Democratic Party, and the Solidarity Alliance.
In a related development, the Alliance for Democracy (Aford) politburo met last evening to deliberate on potential involvement in the alliance discussions, signaling that the Northern political landscape remains dynamic as parties position themselves ahead of the polls.
