Police arrest 11 over criminal activities in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu have apprehended 11 suspects for a series of criminal acts including robberies in the city.
The arrest on Wednesday followed intelligence led operations by police detectives after receiving several complaints from individuals recently.
Some of those arrested include Vitumbiko Phiri 23, from Embangweni traditional authority Mtwalo in Mzimba, Yosefe Moyo 19, from Sande in Ntcheu, Lookman Choyo 18, from Mwangulumkulu village traditional authority Kyungu in Karonga and eight others whose ages range from 18-25 years old.
Some of the victims of the criminal activities among others include Henry Sezi born August 16, 1982 who hails from Magega village traditional authority Mzikubola in Mzimba who was robbed while entering Green Valley Lodge in Chibanja on July 23, 2025 at around 0100 hours.
The suspects robbed him of his Huawei Y6 smartphone, 2000 South African Rands and K120,000 after hitting him in the head.
Joseph Banda born October 10, 1983 from Nelson village traditional authority Simulemba in Kasungu was also attacked and robbed off Samsung A14 smartphone, Mi-Fi and a laptop bag near Reserve Bank of Malawi in Mzuzu on July 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Police have recovered K60, 000, Tecno Spark 4 phone, King Lion motorcycle and a Mi-Fi modem. Some of the recovered items have been positively identified by complainants.
Among the offences committed by the 11 suspects include; robbery, possession of property suspected stolen, house breaking, theft and possession of cannabis sativa without license.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers have intensified investigations into the cases and suspects will be taken to court in due course to answer their respective charges after completion.
The police in the city wishes to assure residents that all efforts are being employed to ensure safety of everyone at all times.
