Police in Ndirande have arrested two men on suspicion of stealing a Rico motorcycle worth K1.2 million.

According to Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Ndirande, Madalitso Sadik Phiri, the suspects have been identified as Chiletso Chitani, 21, and Andrea Philip, 33.

Phiri explained that on July 19, 2025, Chitani requested a piecework (ganyu) job to ride the motorcycle on behalf of the owner. However, after being entrusted with the motorbike, he allegedly disappeared and failed to return it.

Investigations revealed that Chitani later approached his accomplice, Philip, and the two sold the motorcycle for K300,000.

The arrests followed a complaint from the motorcycle owner, and police have since recovered the stolen motorcycle in Lunzu.

Chitani hails from Mchere Village, while Philip is from Gwayu Village, both under Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre District.

The two will appear in court soon to answer charges of theft, contrary to Section 278 of the Penal Code.
