David Mbewe Misses Nomination Slot, Uncertainty Over Presidential Bid

There are doubts over whether David F. Mbewe, leader of the Liberation for Economic Freedom Party, will submit his nomination papers to contest in the September 16 presidential election.
Mbewe was scheduled to present his credentials to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) at 9 a.m. today but did not show up. While some reports suggest he attended a funeral, the exact reason for his absence is still unclear.
In a brief comment, Mbewe confirmed that he failed to arrive at MEC this morning but did not provide further details.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Mbewe will proceed with his presidential bid.
