Lilongwe, July 28, Mana: First Grade Magistrates Court at Mkukula in Dowa has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Sungeni Mischeck Elisa to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour after convicting him of having sexual intercourse with a minor from Ngomani Village in Lilongwe.
The court heard the matter through Prosecutor Sub Inspector Patrick Mandanda, who stated that on January 17, 2025, the victim had been left by her mother at Ngomani Market to sell fish.
“At around 7 Oclock in the evening, Elisa called the girl to come to him, but she refused. Prompting to fulfil his sexual desire, he then grabbed her and dragged her to his house, where he sexually assaulted the girl under the age of 13 years,” explained Mandanda.
Appearing in court, Elisa pleaded guilty to the charge but appealed for leniency, claiming he is the familys bread-winner.
However, in passing sentence, Magistrate Mervis Sulumba agreed with the states recommendation for a stiff penalty and handed down a 10-year sentence with hard labour.
Elisa hails from Billiati Village in Traditional Authority Champitis area in Ntcheu District.
