Former Vice President Dr. Cassim Chilumpha, who is also the leader of the Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD) party, has announced that he will not submit a letter of intent to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to contest in the upcoming presidential election.

According to ADD party spokesperson Lameck Sapuwa, Dr. Chilumpha will instead support Dr. Joyce Banda, leader of the People’s Party, which has now formed an alliance with the ADD.

Sapuwa stated that Dr. Chilumpha has appealed to all ADD members across the country, as well as all Malawians, to vote for Dr. Joyce Banda in the September 16 election.

He emphasized that Banda should be elected president based on her experience in governance and leadership within non-governmental organizations.

Dr. Chilumpha was expected to formally submit his letter to the MEC today.
