Malawian hip-hop sensational Duncan Zgambo, popularly known as Gwamba, has delivered on his pledge to support a fan with K1 million business capital, selecting Mr. James Mapanje, a physically challenged father from Area 25, Lilongwe, as the beneficiary.
Gwamba, who recently earned substantial royalties from COSOMA, launched a social media campaign few days ago inviting his followers to comment with business ideas. He promised to reward the best proposal with K1 million as a gesture of appreciation for his fans’ continued support of his music.
Mapanje’s business idea, submitted by his wife, was selected on July 25. On Monday, July 28, Gwamba personally visited Mapanje’s home to hand over the funds. A heartwarming video of the moment was posted on the artist’s official Facebook page, showing the two singing Gwamba’s motivational song “Zizakhala Better.”
James Mapanje, a father and former breadwinner, was left unable to work after being hit by a car in 2019, which caused a spinal cord injury and left his right hand disabled. His wife pitched the winning business proposal titled “Mapanje Home Shop,” which aims to serve the Kasengere community with affordable groceries including beans, flour, rice, eggs, cooking oil, and soya pieces.
According to the proposal:
Initial stock cost: MWK 927,000
Transport & logistics: MWK 73,000
Total budget: MWK 1,000,000
The initiative’s objective is to generate profit while providing essential household goods to nearby residents, with the hope of becoming a sustainable source of income for the Mapanje family.
Fans have flooded the comment section praising Gwamba for his generosity and community-minded spirit.
