The First Grade Magistrate Court in Chiradzulu has sentenced 51-year-old Graciano Magaisa to 10 years in prison for defiling a 16-year-old girl with a mental disability.

According to State Prosecutor Superintendent Peter Pilingu, the court heard that the incident occurred on November 27 last year in Nanga Village within the district.

Pilingu told the court that Magaisa was caught in the act by the victim’s aunt, who immediately reported the matter to authorities.

During court proceedings, Magaisa pleaded for leniency, claiming it was his first offense.

However, Magistrate Smart Mwaruwasa found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour, stressing the seriousness of the crime and the need to protect vulnerable members of society.
