The Government of Malawi has reassured the public that antiretroviral (ARV) medication will remain accessible to all individuals living with HIV and AIDS, despite the recent withdrawal of ARV funding by USAID.
In an interview with MIJ FM, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining uninterrupted access to ARVs across the country.
“We are aware of the concerns raised following USAID’s withdrawal, but I want to assure Malawians that no one will be left behind when it comes to HIV treatment,” said Chiponda.
She noted that the government, through the support of the Global Fund, has put robust systems in place to ensure a stable ARV supply chain and avert any potential treatment disruptions.
“The Global Fund remains a strong partner, and we are working together to make sure that this funding gap does not compromise the lives of those who depend on these life-saving drugs,” she said.
Malawi has made significant strides in the fight against HIV and AIDS, with thousands relying on ARVs for daily treatment. Government’s assurance is seen as critical in sustaining the country’s progress in managing the epidemic.
