A 43-year-old man, Maxwell Mzundu, has died after being struck by a speeding Scania lorry at Ruo Trading Centre in Mulanje District.
According to Mulanje Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Hawa Juma, the fatal incident occurred as Mzundu was attempting to cross the road.
“He was hit by a Scania lorry that was being driven by 31-year-old Rajab Kaliyati. The vehicle was travelling from Mloza Border heading towards Mulanje Boma,” Juma said.
Mzundu, who hailed from Magumu Village under Traditional Authority Sunganinzeru, sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to Mulanje District Hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing, and they have since urged motorists to exercise caution, especially in trading centres and pedestrian crossings.
