Man Gets 14 Year Jail Term For Raping Disabled Woman In Dedza

Dedza First Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for raping a 21-year-old woman with disabilities.

According to the state prosecutor, Dyton Phiri, identified the perpetrator as Zimkambani Zalimba and said he committed the crime on 2 July in the district when he offered to help the victim’s brother with traditional medicine over his swollen hand, and later he proceeded to treat the victim to restore her sight.

“That’s when the victim was raped twice in the guise of performing a ritual,” said Phiri.
Appearing before the court, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge of rape.
