Police in Thyolo are investigating the brutal murder of 26-year-old Edson Macheso, whose body was discovered on 12 August in a garden at Nang’ombe, Traditional Authority Chimaliro.
According to district police spokesperson Rebecca Kashoti, Macheso had travelled to Mozambique with a friend to sell goats. While there, he allegedly took four goats from a local man, promising to pay K400,000 before fleeing back to Malawi.
Days later, the goat owner reportedly crossed into Malawi with others to demand payment from Macheso’s family in Katundu Village. When the family failed to raise the money, events turned deadly.
Post-mortem results revealed Macheso died from strangulation, severe head injuries and blunt force trauma. Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects.
