Chileka Police have arrested three suspects for allegedly robbing a 30-year-old Statistics Clerk, John Maseko, who was travelling from Zalewa to Blantyre.

According to Chileka Police spokesperson Jonathan Phillipo, the suspects are Kizito Chilemba, 35, Michael Kalemba, 39, and Cosmos Kassimu Mussah, 26.

The incident happened on Saturday, around 8 a.m. Maseko boarded a silver Toyota Vitz, registration number CZ 8239, at Zalewa Road Block, believing it was a regular ride to Blantyre.

Unknown to him, the three men on board had sinister intentions. Between Lirangwe and Lunzu, the suspects attacked Maseko, seizing his laptop bag containing K800,000.

With the car’s doors child-locked, he was unable to escape until they eventually dropped him off and fled with the cash.

Maseko reported the matter to Lunzu Police, who quickly mounted a roadblock and secured all alternative routes into Blantyre.

In their attempt to evade capture, the suspects were intercepted and arrested. Police recovered the stolen cash and impounded the getaway vehicle.
