Police nab Taifa-Market breaker, recover stolen wrappers in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu are keeping in custody Gracium Masauko Gama 29, for breaking into a shop at Taifa Market and stealing property worth K5 Million.

A report filed at Mzuzu Police by Emily Phiri Mhango, a business lady who operates a shop at the said market indicates that on the night of August 9-10 2025, unknown criminals broke into her shop and stole three T-shirts, four bundles of wrappers and a bundle of dresses all valued at the said amount.

While the police were working to trace the criminals, detectives at Chintheche police in Nkhata Bay, arrested Gama while selling assorted clothes.

Gama was then brought to Mzuzu Police Station where upon being interviewed, confessed to have committed the offence at the said market.

He then led a team of detectives from Mzuzu Police where he broke the shop and stole the items stated above.

The police have since recovered 68 pieces of wrappers from the suspect.

He will appear before court soon after investigations have been finalized to answer charges of breaking into a building and commiting a felony.

Gama hails from Jeremani Village Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba District.
