Kabwe Farmer Targeted in Acid Attack Plot as Suspect Dies in Custody

Police in Kabwe have opened investigations into a suspected plot to cause grievous harm following the death of a 22-year-old man who allegedly confessed he had been hired to pour acid on a farmer.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the development, identifying the suspect as Enock Simfukwe Kasengele, who was apprehended by farm workers at Munyama Farms on August 16, 2025 after being found with a concealed bottle of suspected chemicals.
According to police, Kasengele reportedly confessed that unknown individuals had engaged him to attack Ms. Maria Zaloumis, a farmer at Munyama Farms.
He was handed over to Kabwe Central Police Station, but later complained of body pains sustained during his apprehension. He was rushed to hospital for treatment, where he died in the early hours of August 17, 2025.
The body has been deposited in the Kabwe Central Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem as investigations continue
