Law enforcers in Mzuzu on Wednesday arrested Wyson Bwanali 35, for stealing from a business lady money amounting to K500,000 through an offer to sell her cheaper fertilizers.
Bwanali in September 2024, found the reporter Mercy Gondwe 28, queuing to purchase fertilizers at one of Kulima Gold Shops in the city.
He approached and enticed her that she can buy the commodity with ease at Small Holder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SHFFRFM) where he purported was his work place and that she will get a cheaper price of K50, 000 per bag, lower than what Kulima Gold was offering then at K65, 000.
Gondwe gave him K500,000 cash equivalent to ten bags each weighing 50 kilograms.
They went to Luwinga where the suspect asked the lady to wait for him at Luwinga Petroda Filing Station to bring the fertilizers but he never came back.
On August 20, 2025 Gondwe spotted the suspect in Mzuzu city and tipped the law enforcers who swiftly moved in and nabbed him.
He will be taken to court after investigations have been concluded to answer a charge of theft.
Bwanali is believed to have duped several people of their hard earned money.
He hails from Kazembe Village Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.
