The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has closed Mount Meru filling station in Salima for illegally selling fuel in jerry cans.

MERA official Chembezi Mhone said the closure followed a complaint received on Tuesday, alleging that the station was selling fuel in containers without proper authorization.

Upon investigation, MERA confirmed the malpractice, which violates the MERA Act.

Mhone said the closure should serve as a warning to other filling stations to strictly follow regulations.
