The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has launched an investigation into the tragic death of one of its employees, Joseph Chilowa, who died in the line of duty on Monday in Nsanje District.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, ESCOM said the investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are cooperating fully with the authorities, including the police, as they conduct their own enquiries,” the statement reads.

Chilowa, aged 31, reportedly fell from an electricity pole while working at the Mbenje CR-20 camp site.

Nsanje Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Constable Jabulani Ng’oma, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred at around 17:00 hours yesterday.

The deceased was from Machinjiri in Blantyre.
