5 Workers Arrested Over Theft of 212 Bags of Cement Worth K7 Million Meant for M1 Road Project

Police in Mzimba have arrested five employees of Unik Construction, a company working on the M1 Road project, on suspicion of stealing 212 bags of cement valued at around K7 million.
Mzimba Police spokesperson Mariah Banda said between 18 and 21 August 2025, the company’s supervisor noticed irregularities in cement stocks and reported the matter to police.
Following investigations, police arrested Robert Phiri (32), Osmly Shaba (46), Edgar Shaba (24), Donald Alfred (30), and Andrew Jim (26). So far, 73 bags of cement have been recovered.
Banda said the suspects will appear in court once investigations are complete.
