Police at Kabwe in Zambia have formally charged five people with murder following the death of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele of 16 Miles along the Kabwe – Lusaka Road.

Those charged include Maria Francis Zeleni Zaloumis, 40, widely known as the “Zed Farmer,” of Wonani Farm in Montana. Others are Nathaniel Barthrem, 34, a Nigerian national; Daniel Chiluwa, 40, a farm manager of Onani Farm No. 5 in Montana; Fortune Mwitangati, 23, of Nyambe Farm; and Gift Daka, 25, also of Onani Farm.

The five were arrested on August 28, 2025, after police at Chowa Station completed their investigations. They have since been jointly charged with one count of murder, contrary to Section 200, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, and are currently in custody awaiting court appearance.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the development, saying the service remains committed to bringing justice and will pursue serious crimes “without fear or favour.”

The case has attracted significant public attention because of the involvement of high-profile figures in the agricultural sector.
