Jonathan Fischer Appointed as New U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Malawi

The United States Government has appointed Jonathan Fischer as the new Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi. The announcement was made on the embassy’s official website and social media platforms.
Fischer succeeds Amy Diaz in the diplomatic post and brings with him a wealth of foreign service experience. A native of Washington State, Fischer is a graduate of the University of Washington and Eastern Washington University.
Prior to his appointment in Malawi, Fischer served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Dakar, Senegal (2022–2025); Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs in Cairo, Egypt (2020–2022); Economic Counselor in Tunis, Tunisia (2018–2020); and Deputy Director for Maghreb Affairs in Washington, D.C. (2015–2017). His extensive diplomatic career also includes assignments in Libya, South Asia, Europe, and the broader Middle East.
Fischer’s appointment reflects the U.S. government’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Malawi.
