Police in Phalombe have arrested six men for illegally possessing liquid gas without a permit.
The suspects have been identified as Clement Kaliya, 28; Shadrick Gata, 18; Maiden Maganga, 40; Stonard Manjomo, 20; Hezekiah Wakusa, 49; and Francis Mohamed, 20.
According to Phalombe Police spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja, the arrests followed an operation targeting illegal fuel vending. During the operation, detectives seized 1,925 liters of liquid gas, while an additional 180 liters were abandoned at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest the gas was being smuggled to Mozambique for sale through unauthorized routes.
“The suspects are in custody and will appear in court soon. We want to warn the public that storing or transporting liquid gas without a permit is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous,” said Kapanja.
