At least 1,000 people have died in Sudan after being buried under mud and rocks in the Marra area of Zambwe.

According to a report by BBC, the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) announced the tragedy, saying it was triggered by heavy rainfall that lasted for several days.

The rains caused a massive landslide on Mount Marra, which swept through large parts of Tarasin village, leaving widespread devastation.

Reports indicate that only one person survived the disaster in the entire village.

The affected area is difficult to access, as it is mountainous and lacks proper roads.

Mount Marra hosts thousands of people displaced from North Darfur, who sought refuge there while fleeing the ongoing conflict between Sudanese government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
