Karonga Court Fines Five Men K8.3 Million for Illegal Fuel Storage

The Karonga First Grade Magistrate’s Court has fined five men a total of K8.3 million for storing 4,140 litres of liquid petroleum without a licence.
Karonga Police spokesperson, Margret Msiska, said the five are Peter Ngwire Viyuyi, Newack Kapawike, Victor Nyondo, Evance Phiri, and George Mwandenga were arrested on September 6, 2025, in a joint operation conducted by police and the Malawi Defence Force.
In sentencing, the court ordered Viyuyi to pay K4.6 million or serve two years in prison, Kapawike K2.4 million or two years, Nyondo K600,000 or one year and eight months, Phiri K400,000 or nine months, and Mwandenga K300,000 or nine months.
