The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has arrested a 20-year-old man, Ndaona White, for allegedly disrupting elections in Mangochi on Tuesday evening.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Richard Phiri of Monkey Bay, White, together with three others, was found in possession of weapons such as pangas and dressed in military-style clothing.
Phiri said the group was causing disturbances at Kasolo Primary School polling station in the area of Traditional Authority Chimwala.
“We received reports that some people were disrupting the elections. When we followed up, we managed to arrest one suspect while the others fled,” Phiri told the press.
White has since been handed over to Mangochi Police for further investigations.
