The Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 53-year-old Lemison Fredson to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for defiling his 15-year-old biological daughter.

The court, presided over by Senior Resident Magistrate Imran Alley Abu, delivered the verdict on Thursday after hearing compelling evidence from three prosecution witnesses.

According to police prosecutor Jacob Khembo, the offense occurred on the night of July 29, 2025, when Fredson took advantage of his wife’s absence to force himself into his daughter’s bedroom.

“The accused entered the victim’s room around 9 PM and coerced her into sexual intercourse,” Khembo told the court. “The matter came to light when the victim confided in her brother, who subsequently reported to police.”

The case was prosecuted by State Advocate Beatrice Dzuka, who presented medical evidence from Ntcheu District Hospital confirming the sexual assault.

During trial, Fredson denied the charges, forcing the court to call three witnesses whose testimonies the magistrate described as “consistent and credible.”

In his verdict, Magistrate Abu emphasized the gravity of the offense, noting the breach of trust and the rising cases of defilement in the district.

“The convict was in a position of trust as a father but betrayed that trust in the worst way possible,” Abu stated. “This sentence should serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar actions.”

Fredson’s plea for leniency, citing family responsibilities, was rejected by the court which maintained that the severity of the crime warranted the maximum sentence for the offense.

The convict has been remanded at Ntcheu Prison pending transfer to a designated correctional facility.
