Former Malawi President Bakili Muluzi has appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to accept the outcome of the elections and extend his best wishes to Peter Mutharika in order to maintain peace and unity in the country.
Speaking with Zodiak Online today, Muluzi said that based on how the results are unfolding, it is clear that Mutharika is leading, and a message of acceptance from Chakwera would go a long way in calming tensions among party supporters.
“There is life after State House. I know President Chakwera is a man of peace. I have asked him to call Mutharika and congratulate him,” Muluzi said.
He also urged Malawians to remain peaceful and avoid violence that could destroy property or put lives at risk.
Muluzi made the sentiment after noticing that MCP Youth in Lilongwe yesterday were parading to the streets to express their joy over the expected victory for President Chakwera as a response to DPP fans who celebrated the same victory Sunday night.
