Mob Burns Man to Death in Dowa Over Theft Allegations

A mob has burnt to death 33-year-old Samson Andrea at Mtiti Market in Dowa District on suspicion of theft and harassment.

According to Mponela Police Station spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, the mob abducted Andrea from a trader’s home, where he was allegedly attempting to steal pigs. The group then began beating him violently before setting him on fire.

Msadala said the man was later rescued and taken to a health facility in Mponela, but he died shortly after arriving due to the severity of his injuries.

Police have since launched an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the murder. Authorities have also issued a warning to the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging people to report suspects to law enforcement instead of resorting to mob justice.

The deceased hailed from Nambe Village, under Senior Chief Chakhaza in Dowa District.
