Police in Lilongwe District have arrested Simeon Gerald, 24, for allegedly assaulting his wife, Esther Grecian, 22, with a pestle.

According to police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 14, 2025, following an argument between the couple. The altercation reportedly began when Esther questioned Gerald about where he had spent the night, as he had not slept on the porch — a question that angered him.

Ngwira said the argument escalated and continued until midday, when Gerald allegedly grabbed a pestle and injured his wife’s left hand.

Esther has been receiving medical treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital, where she has been admitted for five days since the incident.

Gerald comes from the Khanyinji clan, under the Chitukula Chiefdom in Lilongwe District.
