Consumers will have to pay more for popular alcoholic beverages as Castel Distribution Limited has announced upward price adjustments across its beers and spirits category, effective October 1, 2025.
In a notice to customers dated September 30, the company said the adjustments affect a wide range of products, including Carlsberg Green, Special Brew, Kuche-Kuche, Pomme Breeze, Doppel Munich, Sapitwa, Malawi Gin, Malawi Vodka, and Premier Brandy.
The new retail prices reflect increases of between MWK200 and MWK5,000, depending on the product. For instance, a 330ml bottle of Carlsberg Green will now cost MWK2,500, up from MWK2,200, while Malawi Gin 750ml has jumped from MWK18,000 to MWK23,000. Similarly, Malawi Vodka 750ml has gone up from MWK18,000 to MWK22,000.
However, Castel clarified that there will be no price changes for Carlsberg Beer 640ml and Malawi Vodka 330ml.
“All orders generated from the effective date of the price increase will be issued at the increased prices to ensure that end consumers buy all the listed products at the prices indicated,” the company said.
The upward adjustment comes at a time Malawians are already grappling with recent fuel price hikes, raising concerns over the rising cost of living.
