Malawian Musician ‘Emmie Deebo’ Awards Scholarships to 115 Students

Malawian musician Emmie Deebo has fulfilled her pledge to support struggling students through the Emmie Deebo Scholarship Fund, with 115 beneficiaries officially announced today.
The initiative, which was first teased on 2 July 2025 in a Facebook post where Deebo wrote “Get ready to apply for the Emmie Deebo Scholarship. With the money raised from my album, First Born, I have decided to introduce this fund to support others going through the struggles I once faced in school.”
Out of 709 applicants, 115 were selected after a rigorous vetting process that confirmed both their financial need and their enrollment status.
The young talented artist has managed to raise K28 Million through First Born Album Streams & Tour: K14 million, FUNetix Contribution: K4 million, and an assist from Shepherd Bushiri Bursary: K10 million
Total Paid Out: K21 million
Administrative Costs: K7 million
Scholarship Support including: Full University Scholarship: K325,000, Partial University Scholarship: K125,000 and Secondary School Students: Mostly received full support, while late applicants were awarded K30,000 each.
Some university students also received help with accommodation and upkeep.
Emmie Deebo has thanked her fans and supporters who made the project possible by streaming her music and attending her shows.
“My debut album wasn’t just about sharing art; it was about changing lives. I became an artist to create change, not just for myself but for those who need it most,” she wrote on her facebook page..

The initiative has positioned Emmie Deebo not only as a beloved musician but also as a beacon of hope for many Malawian students facing the same hardships she once endured and other female musicians in the industry.
